The doctor asks me to do some exams, do these exams cover by Tisi Student Insurance?
Laboratory tests and X-rays prescribed by the attending physician due to an emergency
are covered. However, exams such as MRI, cardiac catheterization, CAT scans, sonograms,
ultrasounds and biopsies will only be covered if pre-approved by Global Excel. We suggest you
to call Global Excel each time before going to a doctor or taking exams to confirm your benefits.
Why did some of my drugs expenses be coverd and some did not by Tisi Student Insurance?
We cover durgs, serums and injectibles that can only be obtained upon medical prescrption,
that are prescribed by a physician. Open-to-shelf medicines, drugs anyone can purchase with
or without doctor’s note, are not covered. The benifit is limited to a 30-day supply per prescrption
unless you’re hospitalized.
Does Tisi Student Insurance cover my dental expenses?
With a minimum of 60-day policy purchase, the insurance covers up to $600 for emergency relief
of dental pain. But crowns and root canal are excluded. As dental expenses are usually expensive
and require return visits in Canada, you will likely be asked to pay upfront and claim later.
Does Tisi Student Insurance cover medical examination?
When a minimum of a 180-day policy has been purchased, we cover up to $100 for one annual
medical examination and associated laboratory tests prescribed by a physician in Canada.
However, if the medical examinations are performed at the request of a third party (including
examinations for immigratio purposes), the examination expense will not be covered.
Does Tisi Student Insurance cover eye examination?
With a minimum of a 180-day policy purchase, we cover up to $100 for one examination by
a licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist in Canada.
Does maternity expenses cover by Tisi Student Insurance?
We cover up to $2,000 for pregnancy or complications thereof (excluding voluntary termination
of pregnancy) provided that the pregnancy commenced after the effective date. No benefits are
payable if expenses are incurred outside Canada.
Do flu shot and H1N1 shot cover by Tisi Student Insurance?
Preventive medicines or vaccines are not covered by Tisi Student Insurance.
If I go back my home country to get treatment, what can be covered by Tisi Student Insurance?
The medical expenses occur in your home country will not be covered.
If the return to home country for treatment is necessary and pre-approved by the physician in
Canada and Global Excel, the insurance will reimburse the actual extra cost of a one-way economy
airfare by the most direct route to a maximum of $5,000.
Does the expense for cosmetic treatments or drugs cover by Tisi Student Insurance?
The insurance is designed to cover the emergency medical expenses for international students
studying in Canada. Therefore, cosmetic expenses such as acne medications, baldness remedies,
dietary supplements or weight loss products are not covered.
If I want to travel abroad during my study in Canada, will I be covered by Tisi Student Insurance?
The insurance will cover your medical expenses for your trip outside Canada except your home
country if you spend 51% of the period of coverage in Canada. Visits to the United States are
limited to 30 days per trip.
If you’re traveling against the travel advisory or formal notice issued by the Department of
Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Canadian Government before your departure date,
the medical expenses occur in that specific country will not be covered. If the travel advisory or
formal notice is issued after your departure, the coverage in that specific country is limited to
10 days from the announced date.
I need to go back my home country earlier than I plan, can I cancel the rest of my insurance?
How can I do it?
You can be refund for the remaining coverage days of your insurance if no claim has been made
or is pending and the refund amount is more than $10 after deducting a $25 administrative fee.
Please provide us with the copy of flight ticket and it will take us about 7 business days to check
if any claim has been made. Please contact your school or agency for refund.
If I apply the insurance at age of 65, can I purchase Tisi Student Insurance?
You can purchase Tisi Student Insurance; however, the policy will automatically terminate on the
date you reach age 66. You can purchase the Visitor to Canada insurance after reaching age 66.
